Job Location

Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. St. Lucie County Courthouse, Fort Pierce, Florida. Position also travels to other locations within the Judicial Circuit.

Starting Salary Range

$71,637.32 annually ($64,473.59 if not certified)

Job Description

Primary responsibilities include interpreting the spoken and written word from and into English and Spanish languages; translation and documentation; research and development. The essential function of the position is to interpret legal proceedings which may include, but are not limited to, arraignments, preliminary hearings, pre-trial conferences, and court trials for non-English speaking or hearing-impaired persons to ensure due process. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures and performs a wide variety of language interpretation activities on an assigned and as-needed basis for the 19th Judicial Circuit Courts. 

Education and Training Guidelines

Education – Bachelor’s degree in English, the source language, or a closely related field.  Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis. 

Experience - Two years of court / legal related work experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.

Certification and Special Requirements - Certified Court Interpreter certification issued by the Florida Supreme Court, Office of the State Courts Administrator.  Individuals hired without certification, must become certified within one year from date of hire.  See Fla. R. Court. Interp. 14.205(c). 

Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
